MK Stalin Loses Kolathur Seat To TVK Candidate VS Babu In Major Tamil Nadu Election Upset 2026

In a major political upset in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has lost the Kolathur constituency to V. S. Babu, fielded by actor-politician Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The result has sent shockwaves across the state, as the debutant party continues its strong performance in its first electoral outing, emerging as the single largest political force in Tamil Nadu trends.

According to the latest updates released by the Election Commission of India, TVK has won 11 seats and is leading in 96 constituencies, putting it well ahead in the race to form government. The majority mark in the 234-member Assembly is 118.

Meanwhile, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has secured 4 seats and is leading in 67 others, trailing behind TVK in overall trends.

The Kolathur defeat marks a significant setback for Stalin, who has been a key figure in Tamil Nadu politics and had held the constituency previously. The result is being seen as one of the most surprising outcomes of the 2026 electoral battle.

Polling for all 234 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu was conducted in a single phase on April 23. Counting is still underway, and final results are expected later in the day.

Political observers say the strong debut of TVK has reshaped the state’s political landscape, with its performance already influencing broader national discussions.
