Operation Sindoor demonstrated India’s military strength globally, says Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that Operation Sindoor stands as a powerful example of how the Indian Armed Forces effectively used advanced technology to strike terror networks while exercising restraint.
Speaking at the inauguration of the North Tech Symposium in Prayagraj, Singh said the operation not only showcased India’s growing defence capabilities but also sent a strong global message about the country’s military preparedness.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 last year in response to the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan-occupied territories. The strikes led to four days of intense military clashes before both sides agreed to halt operations on May 10.
Singh praised the armed forces for their “precision and patience”, stating that they targeted only terror infrastructure.
“Our soldiers responded decisively to terrorists and their sponsors. The world has seen our capabilities, but we showed restraint and focused only on terror camps,” he said.
The Defence Minister highlighted the increasing role of modern warfare technologies, including missiles, drones, and sensors, noting that future conflicts will be shaped by rapid technological evolution.
He specifically mentioned systems like Akash and BrahMos, saying they played a key role in demonstrating India’s defence strength.
“Even everyday devices can be turned into weapons in modern warfare. This is why adaptability is essential,” Singh added.
He stressed the importance of “proactive defence preparedness” and developing the ability to surprise adversaries in future conflicts.
Singh also underlined the government’s focus on defence research and innovation through DRDO, noting increased collaboration with industry, academia, and startups. He said 25% of R&D work is now being opened to external partners, and technology transfer policies have been liberalised.
The symposium, organised by the Indian Army’s Northern and Central Commands along with SIDM, features over 250 defence companies showcasing advanced military technologies.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and senior defence officials also attended the event.
