Two NRFM militants, brothers, arrested in Manipur for firing on CRPF, SSB personnel

Two brothers belonging to the proscribed National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) have been arrested for their alleged involvement in separate firing incidents targeting CRPF and SSB personnel in Manipur, police said on Wednesday, September 16.

The two, identified as Sheleibam Tomtin Meitei, 27, and Sheleibam Jagatshyam Meitei, 35, were apprehended on Tuesday from Kongpal Kongkham in Imphal East district following specific intelligence inputs, according to police.

Police said the duo were involved in firing upon SSB personnel at Lamlong Bazar on August 22, and on CRPF personnel deployed at Khonghampat on September 10. Their father, Sheleibam Yaima, has also been arrested earlier in connection with the Khonghampat attack on CRPF forces.

An AK-47 rifle with 43 live rounds and a 9mm pistol with three live rounds were recovered from the brothers' possession at the time of arrest, police added.
