LG seeks visible traffic police on roads, choke points

Lieutenant Governor (LG) Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting with Commissioner of Police Satish Golchha and senior officers at the Delhi Police Headquarters during his first visit and directed the Delhi Police to launch a highly visible traffic police presence on the city's roads and major choke points. He has asked them to aggressively impose fines for wrong-side driving, triple-riding on two-wheelers and helmetless riding.
The LG directed the force to aggressively deploy Artificial Intelligence, drones, Facial Recognition Systems, and social media monitoring for crime prevention, while categorically stating that the safety and security of women, children, and senior citizens is completely non-negotiable. All Special Commissioners of Police, Joint Commissioners of Police, and Deputy Commissioners of Police were present at the meeting.
The LG emphasised the need for humane, visible, and proactively preventive citizen-centric policing, directing officers to remain approachable, empathetic, and firm, and to project fairness and transparency to strengthen public trust. He told officers that citizens judge the administration by tangible outcomes, and that good results speak louder than words.
On crime, the LG directed officers to proactively identify potential crime scenes, pre-empt street crimes, and pay special attention to the safety of girl students. He also stressed continuous skill development among personnel, particularly in handling cybercrimes and sensitive cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
On traffic, the LG said violations must be addressed through stringent enforcement. He directed a highly visible traffic police presence at major congestion points and specifically instructed officers to aggressively penalise wrong-side driving, triple-riding on two-wheelers, and helmetless riding, while working simultaneously to bring about positive behavioural change among road users.
On community policing, the LG directed the force to actively integrate Resident Welfare Associations, Market Welfare Associations, and street vendors into the community policing framework to build robust grassroots intelligence across the city.
On internal administration, the LG highlighted the critical importance of personnel welfare, predictable transfer policies, and transparency to prevent stagnation and favouritism. He directed focused efforts toward timely promotions for lower-ranked personnel, significantly increasing female representation within the force, and exploring Corporate Social Responsibility funding to augment the Martyr Fund for families of personnel killed in the line of duty.
The LG also directed that police residential complexes be transformed into Zero-Waste colonies, replicating the model already established at Navjeevan Vihar, with the support of MCD.
He assured the entire force of his unwavering support and called upon officers to work with renewed commitment toward delivering visible outcomes for residents.
