DDA launches demolition drive in Delhi’s Yamuna Bazar area

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) carried out a major demolition drive in the Yamuna Bazar area of the national capital as part of its ongoing efforts to remove encroachments and reclaim public land.
Heavy machinery, along with police and civic officials, was deployed in the area to clear unauthorized structures built on government land. Security arrangements were tightened to maintain law and order during the operation.
Officials said the drive was undertaken following notices issued to occupants and in compliance with directions related to the removal of illegal constructions in ecologically sensitive and public-use zones along the Yamuna floodplain.
The action drew mixed reactions from local residents, with some expressing concerns over displacement, while authorities maintained that the operation was necessary to protect public land and ensure planned urban development.
The DDA has been conducting similar anti-encroachment drives across several parts of Delhi, particularly in areas falling under the Yamuna floodplain and other protected zones.
Authorities said the exercise is part of a broader initiative to restore and preserve riverfront areas, improve environmental conditions, and prevent unauthorized occupation of public land.
