Tamil Nadu CM Vijay flags off 300 new state buses

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay flagged off 300 newly inducted buses for the state-run transport corporations, marking a major push to strengthen public transportation and improve commuter services across the state.

The new fleet, comprising diesel and CNG-powered buses, will be deployed across seven state transport corporations to replace ageing vehicles and enhance connectivity in both urban and rural areas. Officials said the move is aimed at improving passenger safety, comfort and service reliability.

To highlight the government's commitment to public transport, Vijay also boarded and travelled in one of the newly launched buses after the flag-off ceremony held at the Secretariat in Chennai. The gesture drew attention from commuters and transport staff alike.

Transport department officials said the buses would be distributed in phases based on operational requirements and passenger demand across different regions of Tamil Nadu. The initiative forms part of the state government's broader efforts to modernise the public transport network and improve accessibility.

The induction of the new buses is expected to help transport corporations meet growing commuter demand while improving fleet efficiency and reducing service disruptions caused by older vehicles.
