K’taka CM Shivakumar reviews drought preparedness in central Karnataka, assures no water shortage

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday reviewed drought preparedness in central Karnataka and assured that farmers and the public would not be allowed to face a shortage of water.

The government shifted its Bengaluru regional division-level development review meeting to Chitradurga to assess the worsening drought situation in the region. The meeting will also cover Tumakuru, Shivamogga and Davanagere districts.

Speaking during a road inspection of drought-affected areas in Chitradurga, Shivakumar said public representatives and officials had been brought together to discuss precautionary measures.

He said the drought situation was worsening across the region and stressed the need to review conditions on the ground instead of holding all meetings in Bengaluru.

The chief minister said the government had already taken a special decision at a meeting in Belagavi to ensure farmers do not face water shortages, while officials had compiled the necessary data for the review.
