Khaidem Shileima Chanu to captain India at Junior Women's Hockey Asia Cup

Midfielder Khaidem Shileima Chanu will captain India's 18-member junior women's hockey team at the Junior Asia Cup in Moqi, China, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 13, Hockey India announced on Thursday, Aug 6th.

The squad heads into the continental tournament after completing an exposure tour of the United Kingdom as part of its preparations. The tournament schedule and pool allocations will be announced closer to the event.

Head coach Tim White praised the squad's commitment and progress since he took charge earlier this year, saying the players had earned their places through hard work and consistent improvement.

"I am proud of the commitment and determination these young players have shown in earning their place in the squad for the Junior Asia Cup," White said.

Calling the tournament an important stepping stone, White urged the players to treat it as an opportunity to test themselves against Asia's strongest teams and build towards bigger goals.

"We will approach every match with confidence and discipline. I am confident this group has the talent and character to make the country proud," he said.
