Omar Abdullah vows to continue fight for J&K statehood until restoration

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday, Aug 6th said his government and the National Conference (NC) would continue pressing for the restoration of statehood until it is achieved.

"We will continue our efforts until statehood is restored," Abdullah told the reporters after reviewing relief and rehabilitation measures in flood-hit Rajouri district, responding to a question on whether the party would intensify its campaign following protests across the Union Territory.

His remarks came a day after the NC held demonstrations across Jammu and Kashmir to mark seven years since the abrogation of Article 370, demanding the restoration of statehood and constitutional rights.

Abdullah's statement also follows the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where he and NC president Farooq Abdullah led party leaders in renewing their demand for the restoration of statehood.

Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised into two Union Territories after the Centre revoked Article 370 and bifurcated the erstwhile state on Aug. 5, 2019. The NC has consistently maintained that restoring full statehood remains one of its key political commitments.
