Asian Games: Kumaresan bows out in sabre pre-quarterfinals; Indian women fencers exit

India's Gisho Nidhi Kumaresan Padma was knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals of the men's individual sabre event at the Asian Games after losing to Kazakhstan's Artyom Sarkissyan here on Wednesday.

Kumaresan went down 11-15 to Sarkissyan at the Aichi Sky Expo Hall.

Earlier, Kumaresan had defeated Laos' Quentin Saysana Geoffroy 15-8 in the round of 32, while fellow Indian Karan Singh lost narrowly to China's Luo Shaotong 14-15.

Kumaresan had registered three wins and two losses in the pool stage.

In the women's individual foil event, India's Mina Devi Naorem and Ashitha Stalinraj Joys also exited after losing their respective round-of-32 bouts.

Mina Devi was beaten 3-15 by South Korea's Park Jihee, while Ashitha put up a close fight before going down 14-15 to Kazakhstan's Alyona Gnoyeva.

Both Indians had advanced to the round of 32 after managing one win from five bouts in their respective pool-stage contests.
