Delhi LG orders strict crackdown on illegal constructions, directs MCD to prepare action plan

Delhi Lieutenant Governor has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to implement a strict and time-bound action plan against illegal constructions across the capital, amid growing concerns over building safety and urban violations.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, the LG instructed officials to intensify inspections, enforce building bylaws more rigorously, and take swift action against unauthorised structures. The focus was placed on identifying violations early and ensuring strict enforcement through sealing, demolition, and legal action wherever necessary.
The directive comes in the backdrop of recent incidents, including building collapses and fire tragedies in the city, which have raised questions over compliance with fire safety norms and illegal expansion of commercial properties.
Officials have also been asked to strengthen inter-agency coordination, improve monitoring systems, and ensure accountability at the civic level to prevent future violations.
The move is seen as part of a broader effort to tighten urban regulation and improve safety standards across Delhi’s residential and commercial infrastructure.
