Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Launches Uber Carpool Service at Airport to Promote Shared Mobility

The Delhi government has launched Uber’s carpool service at Delhi Airport in an effort to encourage ride-sharing, reduce traffic congestion, and promote environmentally friendly travel in the national capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially flagged off the service, marking the return of shared mobility options that had largely been discontinued during the COVID-19 period.
The initiative aims to provide passengers with a more convenient and cost-effective travel option while also supporting the city’s efforts to reduce vehicle emissions. By allowing multiple passengers travelling on similar routes to share rides, authorities expect the service to help lower the number of individual vehicles on roads and improve traffic movement.
Speaking about the initiative, Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the carpool service is expected to benefit lakhs of passengers every month.
He highlighted that shared transportation systems can play an important role in addressing urban challenges such as increasing traffic density and environmental concerns.
The launch reflects Delhi’s broader focus on sustainable urban mobility and cleaner transportation solutions. Ride-sharing services are increasingly being viewed as a practical step toward reducing pollution and encouraging responsible commuting habits in densely populated cities.
Officials believe the initiative may contribute to easing road pressure around major travel hubs while offering passengers an alternative travel option that supports both convenience and sustainability goals.
