Dalit Teen Murder in Uttarakhand: father alleges brutal torture in Tehri Garhwal case

A shocking murder case involving an 18-year-old Dalit teenager in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district has triggered widespread outrage, with the victim’s family alleging severe torture before his death.
According to police and PTI reports, the victim had been in a relationship for around six months with a girl from an upper-caste community. The incident took place after he was called to a village in the Kholgarh area of Pratapgarh Block on Sunday night.
After reaching the location with a friend, the teenager was allegedly confined and assaulted inside a room.
The victim’s father has made disturbing allegations about the nature of the attack, claiming extreme brutality, including physical torture and injuries inflicted with sharp objects. He alleged that the victim suffered deep injuries across his body before succumbing to his wounds.
The allegations have sparked major protests in the region, with locals and family members gathering outside the hospital demanding immediate arrests. The family has also claimed that a video of the assault exists and has circulated on social media, intensifying public anger.
The victim belonged to a Scheduled Caste community, and the case has taken on a sensitive social dimension due to the nature of the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the relationship.
Police officials said two individuals have been arrested so far, and further investigation is underway. Senior police officers confirmed that evidence has been collected from the crime scene and forensic examination is in progress.
Tehri Senior Superintendent of Police Shweta Choubey said that the case is being thoroughly investigated and additional arrests may follow based on evidence.
Authorities are also examining all digital and physical evidence linked to the incident to establish the sequence of events leading to the teenager’s death.
The victim’s family has refused to perform last rites until all accused are arrested, demanding swift justice and strict action against those involved.
