Tejashwi Yadav alleges Bihar facing financial crisis over pension fund withdrawal

Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, on Wednesday alleged that the Bihar government’s decision to withdraw ₹3,662 crore from the contingency fund for social security pension payments reflects a deepening financial crisis in the state.

The remarks came a day after the Bihar Cabinet approved the withdrawal of funds from the Bihar Contingency Fund to disburse social security pensions for the months of May, June, and July.

In a post on social media platform X, Yadav questioned the state's financial health and accused the government of relying on emergency funds instead of making regular budgetary provisions for welfare payments.

“The financial condition of Bihar is alarming. The government has withdrawn ₹3,662 crore from the contingency fund to pay pensions, which raises serious questions about the state's fiscal management,” the RJD leader said.

Yadav also targeted Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, describing him as inexperienced and urging him to address public concerns over what he termed Bihar’s “pathetic financial situation.”

The former deputy chief minister further alleged that salaries and pensions have faced delays in recent months due to an empty state treasury. He claimed that several government schemes and development projects have been affected by a shortage of funds.

Among the issues raised by Yadav were alleged delays in scholarship disbursements, stagnation in the Student Credit Card Scheme, power supply disruptions, and concerns regarding the implementation of previously approved development plans.

The RJD leader also questioned whether Bihar was heading towards a financial emergency, alleging that policy decisions of the ruling government had adversely impacted the state's fiscal stability.

The Bihar government has not yet officially responded to Yadav’s allegations.
