Contaminated well water sickens over 80 villagers in MP's Ratlam; 21 hospitalised, later discharged

More than 80 residents of Azampur Dodiya village in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district fell ill after reportedly consuming contaminated water from a village well over the past few days. According to health officials, villagers experienced symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain, prompting the administration to launch emergency medical and relief measures.
The health department quickly deployed ambulances to transport seriously affected patients to the Civil Hospital in Piploda. A total of 21 people were admitted for treatment, and all were discharged after their condition improved.
A medical team also set up a health camp in the village, where doctors examined patients, distributed medicines and conducted a door-to-door survey to identify additional cases.
Officials said the contaminated well has since been cleaned to prevent further illnesses. Blood samples have been collected for laboratory testing after villagers declined to provide stool samples. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and have urged residents to consume safe drinking water while investigations into the contamination continue.
The incident has highlighted the importance of maintaining safe drinking water sources and timely public health interventions in rural areas.
