Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay chaired a high-level review meeting with finance department officials to assess the state’s financial condition.
According to an official release, the meeting was held at the Secretariat in Chennai and attended by Chief Secretary T. N. Sai Kumar along with senior officials from the finance department.
The Chief Minister is understood to have reviewed the current fiscal situation in detail as the government prepares to release a “white paper” on the state’s financial health.
Earlier, CM Vijay had stated that Tamil Nadu’s finances were under significant stress, citing a debt burden exceeding ₹10 lakh crore and claiming that the state treasury had been left in a depleted condition.
He had also said that the new administration would require time to implement key welfare promises announced during the election campaign.
Among the major assurances of the TVK government are monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 for women below 60 years, provision of 8 grams of gold for marriage, and six free LPG cylinders per household annually.
The review meeting is seen as part of the government’s effort to evaluate fiscal challenges and plan implementation of welfare schemes in the coming months.
