CM announces Rs 10 lakh aid for victims’ families

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the Malviya Nagar fire and the building collapse in Saket, while also declaring financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for those injured in the two tragedies.

The announcement was made during a special programme at the Delhi Secretariat, where the Chief Minister paid tribute to the victims and honoured citizens, police personnel, rescue workers, and officials who played a crucial role in saving lives during the emergencies.

Several individuals involved in the rescue operations were presented with commendation certificates and cash awards of Rs 21,000 each in recognition of their courage and service.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the fire at Hauz Rani in Malviya Nagar and the building collapse in Saidulajab, Saket. She said the Delhi Government stands firmly with the affected families and has directed officials to ensure that compensation and relief are provided quickly and transparently. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of those who died in both incidents.

The Chief Minister said the tragedies had caused immense pain not only to the affected families but also to society at large. Referring to the Hauz Rani fire, she noted that an entire family lost its life in the incident. She also mentioned that some foreign nationals who had come to India for medical treatment were among those affected by the disaster. Among those specially honoured was Riyazuddin Mansoori, who displayed exceptional courage during the Malviya Nagar fire.

According to officials, he quickly arranged mattresses below the building, helping several people escape and survive. The Chief Minister not only honoured him with a cash award but also ensured reimbursement of the cost of the mattresses used during the rescue effort.
