CJP says volunteers detained near Ramanthapur polytechnic

Telangana Police detained Cockroach Janta Party volunteers near Government Polytechnic, Ramanthapur, on September 11, the group's state coordinator Vijay Mallangi said.

Mallangi said the volunteers had gathered to support students protesting against Government Order 97. Police had not publicly responded to the detention claim.

In a post on X, Mallangi described the detention as unlawful and said the volunteers were standing peacefully near the college. The number and names of those allegedly detained were not immediately available.

There was also no information about where they were taken, how long they were held or whether they had been released. No case or grounds for the alleged detention were reported.

The students have been protesting against changes linked to GO 97 and the Young India Skills University. They fear higher fees and changes to diploma students' route into undergraduate engineering courses.

Hyderabad police had also tried to disperse protesting students at the Ramanthapur college on September 10 also. It said a scuffle followed and several students suffered minor injuries during the commotion. Another media report described the police action as a lathi charge.

Students want government polytechnics to remain under the State Board of Technical Education and Training and the Technical Education Department. They have also sought protection for the ECET lateral entry route.

Earlier CJP volunteers had spoken with students and the college management during Delhi protests in August. The report said the group supported students opposing the administrative changes.
