Bus gang rape case began over payment dispute, police claim

In the alleged rape case of a woman inside a bus, Delhi police officials claimed that the incident began with a dispute over payment for sexual services. According to Police, the accused allegedly refused to pay the full agreed-upon amount after the services were provided.

According to Delhi Police, the woman alleged that a bus driver and his helper gang raped her inside a private bus after she boarded it near Saraswati Vihar while returning home from work on 12 May. Following her complaint, police arrested the two accused, identified as Umesh and Ramendra, and seized the bus for forensic examination. Ramendra was allegedly driving the vehicle at the time.

Police officials told The Pioneer that during their investigation, they claimed the woman had boarded the bus after agreeing to provide sexual services to the accused in exchange for money. Officials stated a dispute about the payment arose after one of the accused allegedly paid only part of the agreed amount, which they claim escalated before the alleged assault.

Officials further claimed that soon after the incident, the woman made a PCR call using the cell phone of one of the accused.

The incident allegedly took place in the early hours of 12 May. The police said the accused are both residents of Uttar Pradesh and were present in the city at the time.

In her complaint, the woman alleged that on the night of 12 May, she reached the bus stand in Saraswati Vihar and asked a man standing by the private bus’s door for the time. She alleged that the man pulled her into the vehicle, after which the bus began moving towards Nangloi. The driver and conductor then allegedly raped her one after the other.

The woman, who is married and has three children, underwent a medical examination on the same day following the incident.

An FIR was registered at Rani Bagh police station under relevant BNS sections, including rape, gang rape, and common intention. Police said the case is under investigation.
