NDMC hands out compassionate jobs, health cards to staff

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday distributed appointment letters to 109 people appointed on compassionate grounds and issued medical health cards to 878 contractual employees of the New Delhi Municipal Council. She described the measures as part of the Government's effort to build a more sensitive and transparent administration.

The programme was organised by the NDMC at the NDCC Convention Centre on Jai Singh Road. Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra, Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal, and other council members attended the event.

Addressing employees and officials, the Chief Minister said the NDMC was not merely a civic institution but a support system for thousands of workers and families serving the national Capital. She said employees working in the NDMC area contributed directly to the image and functioning of Delhi as the country's administrative centre.

The Chief Minister said the compassionate appointments had brought financial and emotional support to 109 families of deceased employees. She added that the initiative was not only about providing jobs, but also about ensuring long-term stability for affected families. The Chief Minister noted that nearly 90 women were among those who received appointment letters. She expressed confidence that the new recruits would work with dedication in strengthening the vision of a developed Delhi and a developed India.

The Chief Minister said rising medical costs often place severe financial pressure on families and added that the health cards would provide relief and security during emergencies. Referring to the broader governance approach of the Government, the Chief Minister said the administration was working on the principle of inclusive development and aimed to ensure that employees and citizens received services with dignity and fairness. Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the initiatives reflected the Government's responsibility towards workers and their families. He said dependents of deceased employees had received an opportunity for financial stability, while contractual employees would no longer have to worry about arranging large amounts of money during medical emergencies.

Singh also recalled the NDMC's earlier decision to regularise around 4,400 temporary employees. He said the measures were being implemented as part of the Government's duty towards society and not for political gain.

New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj described the decisions as humanitarian measures that addressed long-pending demands of employees. She said the approval of compassionate appointments and medical facilities reflected the administration's commitment to employee welfare.

NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra said the appointment of 109 dependents demonstrated the council's commitment to supporting families of employees who had spent years serving the organisation. He added that the council wanted to ensure dignity, emotional support, and financial protection for affected families.

Chandra said the medical card scheme covered 878 contractual workers across 38 categories, including engineers, nurses, technical staff, and clerical employees. He described the initiative as an important step towards social security and inclusive welfare.
