Bahamas plane crash kills all 10 onboard; Flamingo Air flights grounded

All 10 people aboard a small passenger plane were killed after it crashed in the Bahamas, prompting authorities to launch an investigation and temporarily suspend operations of the airline involved.

The Cessna 402 aircraft, operated by Flamingo Air, crashed on Friday in North Andros after taking off from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau on a flight to San Andros. Initial reports had suggested one survivor, but officials later confirmed that the person succumbed to injuries, taking the death toll to 10.

In response to the tragedy, the Bahamian government temporarily grounded all Flamingo Air flights as a precautionary measure while aviation authorities investigate the cause of the crash.

Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis expressed condolences to the victims' families, describing the accident as a national tragedy that occurred during the country's 53rd Independence Day celebrations.

Authorities are also examining a separate incident involving another Flamingo Air aircraft that caught fire after passengers had safely disembarked, leading to additional safety concerns surrounding the carrier.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and the identities of the victims have not been officially released. The investigation remains ongoing.
