Arunachal Pradesh electoral roll: 1.91 lakh voters removed after SIR

Arunachal Pradesh’s final electoral roll was published on Tuesday with 6,96,026 registered voters, marking a reduction of 1,91,479 electors from the pre-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) figure of 8,87,505.

The final roll comprises 3,43,709 male voters, 3,52,315 female voters and two third-gender electors. The gender ratio stands at 1,025 women for every 1,000 men. Election officials said 43.61 per cent of registered electors have a physical or digital Voter ID card.

The SIR exercise began in Arunachal Pradesh on June 5, with the draft electoral roll released on July 21 containing 7,18,046 electors. Of these, 6,32,871 voters were mapped to themselves or their progeny, while 85,175 remained unmapped.

Notices were issued to unmapped electors as well as 1,33,413 voters flagged for logical discrepancies. Officials said a total of 2,18,588 notices were issued during the verification process. Authorities subsequently conducted hearings and examined documents submitted by voters along with undertakings provided by booth-level officers.

During the claims and objections period from July 21 to August 20, the election office received 18,598 forms. Following verification, 8,803 electors were added and 1,924 were removed from the draft roll.

Electors who are dissatisfied with their deletion can appeal to the district magistrate within 15 days of publication of the final roll. A second appeal can be filed before the chief electoral officer within 30 days of the district magistrate’s decision.

The final electoral roll for service voters was also released on Tuesday, listing 5,552 service electors in the state.
