Army opens 43 internship projects on AICTE portal

The Indian Army has for the first time opened its establishments to student interns through the Indian Army Internship Programme hosted on the AICTE National Internship Portal.

The programme offers 43 specialised projects with a stipend of up to Rs 75,000 and up to 15 AICTE credits. It has already received over 77,000 applications since its launch, and the last date to apply is set as August 15, 2026.

The internships cover Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics, drones and counter-drone systems, hospital information systems, wargaming and simulation, and strategic communication.

Selected interns will work directly with Indian Army establishments for 75 days, comprising 60 days on-site and 15 days work-from-home, under the mentorship of Army officers and subject-matter experts.

Of the 43 projects listed, around 18 remain open for application.

The most applied-for project so far is an AI and Machine Learning internship focused on upgrading and fine-tuning AI and large language models at the Directorate General of Information Systems, which has received 11,848 applications.

A Data Analyst internship at the Army Design Bureau has drawn 7,419 applications, followed by a DevSecOps Engineer role with 5,530 applications and a Full Stack Software Developer role with 5,488 applications. Establishments offering projects include DGIS, Army Design Bureau, EME Directorate, DG Signals, Directorate General of Medical Services, Directorate General of Army Air Defence, Infantry Directorate, WARDEC, and others. Students from AICTE-approved technical and professional courses across the country can apply to multiple projects but may accept only one offer letter. No application fee is charged.

AICTE CEO Dr Buddha Chandrasekhar said the programme brings India’s brightest young minds into the heart of the nation’s defence and technology ecosystem.

Students must apply at internship.aicte-india.org before August 15. Eligibility, location, and deadlines vary by project.
