After BJP’s Bengal win, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files to release in West Bengal

Vivek Agnihotri’s film The Bengal Files is set to be screened in Kolkata from Friday, months after facing release hurdles in West Bengal.

The development comes after Agnihotri alleged that the film was previously blocked from screening in the state. He also claimed that efforts had been made earlier to restrict its theatrical release.

Following the recent political developments in West Bengal, Agnihotri took to social media platform X, referencing the controversy around the film and stating that despite opposition, the team ensured the film reached audiences across the state in limited form.

According to reports, the film will now be screened in Kolkata cinemas, with plans underway to expand its release to other theatres across West Bengal.

Film distributor Arijit Dutta said the movie did not get a proper theatrical release earlier in the state due to external pressure, despite generating significant public interest. He added that audiences in Bengal will now finally get a chance to watch it in cinemas.

Distributor Satadeep Saha also indicated that the release will not be limited to Kolkata, with discussions ongoing to bring the film to multiple locations across the state.

The film’s release had earlier been surrounded by political controversy, with claims of obstruction and disputes over screening permissions.
