SIR: 73 lakh names out of draft rolls, 92 lakh to get notices in Telangana

As many as 73 lakh names have not been included in Telangana's draft electoral rolls, while another 92 lakh electors will be issued notices over anomalies or failure to establish a link with the 2002 rolls during the ongoing SIR.
The draft electoral rolls were published on Monday following the enumeration phase held from June 25 to August 10.
As of August 10, out of 3,38,26,448 electors, a total of 2,64,87,213 had submitted their Enumeration Forms.
Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy said on Monday that about 73 lakh names were in the Absent, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate list.
Genuine electors can still have their names included in the electoral rolls during the claims and objections period from August 17 to September 16 by submitting Form 6 along with the prescribed declaration form.
Reddy said notices would be issued to 60 lakh people in the 'anomalies' category and another 32 lakh in the 'unmapped' category, comprising those who could not establish a link with the 2002 electoral rolls.
Those who receive notices can submit the necessary documents, as specified on the reverse of the Enumeration Form, during the hearing.
The CEO's office said an Electoral Registration Officer should not delete any name from the draft electoral roll without issuing a notice, conducting an inquiry and giving the person concerned a fair and reasonable opportunity to be heard.
An aggrieved person can appeal against the ERO's decision before the District Magistrate, who is also the district election officer, within 15 days of the ERO's order under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act. If still dissatisfied, the person can file a second appeal before the CEO within 30 days of the District Magistrate's order, under the relevant rules.
The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will be held from August 17 to October 15.
The final electoral roll will be published on October 19.
