11-year-old girl killed, seven students injured as SUV falls into gorge in Shimla

An 11-year-old girl was killed and seven other students were injured after an SUV carrying eight students of a government school plunged into a gorge near Chopal tehsil in Shimla district on Thursday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Sakshi, 11, daughter of Ramesh and a resident of Shantha village in Chopal.
According to police, the accident occurred around 5.30 pm near Jhari village when the driver of the SUV, a Fortuner, lost control of the vehicle. The SUV then skidded off the road and fell into the gorge.
A police team reached the spot after the accident and rescued the injured students. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh confirmed the incident and said a case has been registered.
