Shehbaz Sharif to lead Pakistan delegation at UNGA session next week
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will lead the country's official delegation at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.
Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said at the weekly briefing that Sharif will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and several federal ministers.
Sharif will highlight Pakistan's perspective on regional and global developments and reaffirm the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, restraint and peaceful resolution of disputes, Khan said.
The prime minister is also expected to outline Pakistan's priorities on sustainable development, climate change, counter-terrorism, Islamophobia, global economic challenges, UN reforms and issues concerning the Global South.
He will also draw attention to the situation in Palestine, the spokesperson said.
On the sidelines of the UNGA session, Sharif is scheduled to participate in high-level events and hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
During these engagements, he will highlight Pakistan's commitment to multilateralism, the UN Charter, regional peace and international cooperation, Khan said.
Earlier, reports said Sharif would also attend an official dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for world leaders on September 23 on the sidelines of the UNGA session.
