Seema Prahari: A salute to courage beyond the border

Seema Prahari (Hindi), authored by Nitya Shukla and Vandana Bhatia Palli and published by Highbrow Scribes Publications, stands out as a powerful literary tribute to the courage and sacrifice of India’s Border Security Force (BSF). Recently showcased at the World Book Fair 2026 at Pragati Maidan, the book has drawn attention for its rare and moving documentation of gallantry within one of the world’s largest border-governing forces.
First released on November 27, 2025, in New Delhi by former BSF Director General Shri Daljit Singh, Seema Prahari is being recognised as the first official and structured compilation of gallantry award narratives from the BSF. The book chronicles the lives and acts of valour of BSF personnel honoured with 1 Maha Vir Chakra, 3 Kirti Chakras, 2 Vir Chakras, and 6 Shaurya Chakras—each story reflecting exceptional bravery in the face of grave danger.
At the heart of the book lies a thoughtful interpretation of the BSF motto, “Jeevan Paryant Kartavya” (Duty unto Death). The authors do not present it as a ceremonial slogan, but as a lived philosophy shaping every aspect of a soldier’s life. This ethos flows seamlessly through the narratives—whether in accounts of soldiers braving hostile terrains, families enduring long separations, or supreme sacrifices made in service of the nation.
