Security forces nab 7 insurgents, seize arms in Manipur

In a massive blow to insurgent outfits operating in the region, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in close coordination with Manipur Police, apprehended seven active cadres and recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during a week-long intensive crackdown across the State.
The intelligence-driven operations, conducted between 1 February and 7 February 2026, spanned the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, and Pherzawl.
According to a statement from the Spear Corps, the joint teams seized 18 weapons and a large quantity of “war-like stores.”
The operations commenced on 1 February, when a joint team of Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police apprehended an active cadre of the SOREPA group in Mayang Imphal.
The momentum continued the following day with the discovery of a concealed hideout near Tonglhang village.
The recovery included an AK-47 rifle, two pistols, two single-barrel rifles, and 18 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The IEDs were destroyed in situ by expert teams following established safety protocols.
On the same day, two active cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were nabbed from Kakwa and Lambal areas.
Further successes followed on 3 February in the Loktak Lake region, where security forces recovered a country-made carbine, rifle grenades, and lathode bombs.
Simultaneously, in Tengnoupal district, Assam Rifles troops foiled a daring ambush attempt near the India-Myanmar border at T’Minou.
After repelling fire from across the border, troops recovered an AK-56 and an M4 rifle with telescopic sights.
The final phase of the crackdown saw the arrest of cadres from the UNLF (Koireng) and PREPAK during targeted raids in Singjamei and Senjam Khunou.
Officials stated that these coordinated strikes have effectively disrupted the logistical and tactical networks of several valley and hill-based militant groups.
