Security call for West Bengal CM Suvendu

A number of ministers in the West Bengal Cabinet want tightened security for Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari following the arrest of Hamim Mondal and his girlfriend Arpita Sarkar, two suspected Pakistan terror operatives who had been tasked, among other things, to digitally follow his movement.

Referring to the leads found by the West Bengal Special Task Force on the Hamim’s movements before his arrest, senior minister Agnimitra Paul on Sunday demanded, “top class security for our Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari … including bullet proof vehicles and jammers because what has been revealed by the STF is alarming … he is a mass leader and meets people everywhere often alighting from his vehicle midway … so his security should be reviewed.”

Earlier, State ministers Arjun Singh and Umesh Rai too demanded upgradation of Adhikari’s security. Incidentally, the terror mole had been tasked with getting Rai’s son abducted through Arpita's honey trap.

Hamim Mondal was arrested from Renaissance township in East Burdwan. Later, his associate, Arpita Sarkar, was picked up from Sahibganj in Jharkhand. Police found data tracking the travel schedules and security movement patterns of CM Adhikari on the suspects’ devices. The police later found that he was taking instructions from his handlers in Pakistan. He is also suspected to have Jaish links and was tasked with procuring police uniforms to infiltrate the Jantar Mantar gathering of Cockroach Janata Party late last month, Garav Sharma, IG STF, said.
