Satish Upadhyay appointed vice-chairman of DJB

The Delhi Assembly secretariat has nominated Malviya Nagar MLA Satish Upadhyay as vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Along with Upadhyay, two party MLAs — Manoj Kumar Shokeen and Ajay Mahawar —have been nominated as members of the Board. For almost a year since the BJP Government came to power, the post of vice-chairman of the DJB had been lying vacant.
“The Delhi Assembly Secretariat has issued an order confirming these appointments, according to Speaker Vijender Gupta. The new Vice-Chairman has been nominated by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, as per the Delhi Jal Board Act of 1998.
“Members are hereby informed that Speaker, Delhi Legislative Assembly, is pleased to nominate the following MLAs as Vice Chairman and Members to Delhi Water Board as per the provisions of Delhi Water Board Act, 1998,” the order said.
Gupta expressed confidence in the new representatives. “Institutions Managing Water Must Function With Accountability and Public Purpose,” said the Speaker.
He said their public experience and institutional understanding would help strengthen the Delhi Water Board and improve responsiveness to public concerns. He added that ongoing policy attention, coordinated governance, and public participation are essential for building a more water-secure and environmentally resilient Delhi in the years ahead.
Upadhyay, MLA from South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar assembly constituency, has previously served as vice-chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
Shokeen, who was elected from the Nangloi Jat Assembly seat, and Mahawar, MLA from Ghonda, have been nominated as members of the Board.
