Rusticated student attacks staff

A commotion broke out at Delhi University’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh College late Thursday after a rusticated student allegedly returned to the campus with associates and attacked staff members, college authorities said on Friday.
The college administration has approached the Malviya Nagar police to investigate the matter and take action against the accused students.
Principal Arun Kumar Attree said the student was rusticated on Thursday for beating up another student in a drunken state on campus. “On Thursday, the student had physically assaulted another student, due to which he was rusticated. However, a couple of hours later, he gathered his accomplices from outside and came back to beat up the student who had complained against him,” Attree said.
When staff members intervened, the group allegedly abused and attacked them as well, triggering chaos on the premises. “We have approached the Malviya Nagar police to investigate the matter. We have also submitted security footage from the college campus,” Attree added.
In the CCTV footage, a group of students can be seen involved in a violent altercation with staff near the college building. The video, which has since circulated among students, shows shouting, pushing, and attempts to hit college personnel.
