Residents oppose proposal to upgrade GK-II to Category ‘A’
Residents of Greater Kailash-II on Tuesday opposed a proposal to upgrade the colony from Category ‘B’ to Category ‘A’, saying the move could lead to higher property taxes without corresponding improvements in civic infrastructure.
A delegation of resident welfare associations under the banner of the United Residents of Delhi (URD) met Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Rai and submitted a memorandum registering their protest against the proposed change in categorisation. According to the RWA, civic amenities and infrastructure in the colony still require improvement, and the reclassification should be considered only after these issues are addressed.
They said the proposed upgrade would result in an increase in circle rates and property tax, thereby placing an additional financial burden on residents without any guaranteed improvement in public services or facilities.
The delegation was led by URD South co-convenor Bhavna Gupta and included Federation of GK-II Complex RWAs chairman Chetan Sharma, along with members Manveen, Ashok Bagga and Ashwani Nijhawan. The representatives handed over a memorandum to the MLA urging that the concerns of residents be considered before any decision is taken on changing the colony’s category.
