Delhi CM Rekha Gupta takes metro ride under Metro Monday campaign

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday travelled by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation under the newly launched “Metro Monday” campaign aimed at encouraging citizens to use public transport and conserve fuel.
The Chief Minister travelled from Kashmere Gate Metro Station to ITO Metro Station along with Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh and senior officials as part of the initiative launched by the Delhi government.
The campaign comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to reduce the use of fuel-driven vehicles amid the ongoing global energy crisis linked to tensions in West Asia.
Appealing to Delhi residents, Rekha Gupta urged people to adopt public transport in their daily routines to help save national resources and reduce pollution and traffic congestion in the national capital.
She said the government is working to improve public transport facilities and strengthen last-mile connectivity to ensure convenience for commuters. The Chief Minister also thanked citizens who chose to travel by metro under the campaign.
Meanwhile, DMRC announced that it will run 24 additional metro trips every Monday to manage increased passenger footfall and support the campaign. Additional security personnel, ticket counters and baggage screening systems will also be deployed to ensure smooth operations.
The Metro Monday campaign is part of a broader fuel-saving and austerity plan announced by the Delhi government, which includes mandatory work-from-home for government employees twice a week, reduced fuel allocation for officials, staggered office timings and a “No Vehicle Day” appeal for residents.
