Rekha Gupta distributes bicycles to girl students

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Saturday, attended an event in the RK Puram Assembly constituency, where she distributed bicycles to girls who excelled in Classes 10 and 12. This initiative supports students’ continued education by improving access, safety, and independence. The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of girls’ education and thanked the organisers for their efforts.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Delhi Imperial (District 3012) under the leadership of President Rtn. Rajesh Modi and Hon. Secretary Rtn. Pankaj Agarwal, the grand Cycle Donation Drive was held at the Kerala School in RK Puram. The initiative specifically recognised high-achieving Class 12 students who secured 80 per cent and above in their board examinations. Event Convenor Dinesh Gupta emphasised that the choice of bicycles was intentional, aiming to promote both health and environmental consciousness. The high-profile ceremony was also attended by several notable dignitaries as Guests of Honour, including New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj and District Governor Rtn Dr Amita Mohindru.
The chief minister stated that girls’ education is essential for the progress of families, society, and the nation. She described the bicycle as a tool that builds students’ confidence, independence, and hope.
The Chief Minister announced that the Delhi Government has decided to provide bicycles to all girls taking admission in Class 9 in Government schools. Around 1.30 lakh girls enrol in Class 9 every year, and these bicycles will help them commute to school, college, and coaching centres. She said the process of bicycle distribution will begin after the summer vacation.
The Chief Minister praised RK Puram MLA Anil Sharma and the Rotary Club Delhi Imperial for distributing bicycles to over 500 students before the Government program began. She thanked the Rotary Club and all project participants. She also reaffirmed the Delhi Government’s commitment to expanding opportunities, safety, and support for girls’ education. The goal is to ensure that no girl abandons her studies or aspirations due to a lack of resources. Several dignitaries, including BJP District President Ravindra Chaudhary, attended the event.
