Rain lashes parts of Capital

Delhi experienced a sudden change in weather, with rain lashing parts of the national capital on Sunday, bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing heat conditions. Visuals from near Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport showed rain lashing several areas around the airport.
The showers led to a noticeable drop in temperature, offering respite to residents who had been enduring hot and humid conditions over the past few days. Delhi recorded the maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 1.6 notches above the seasonal average. The national capital is expected to witness hot weather over the next seven days, with maximum temperatures ranging from 36 degrees Celsius to 41 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures between 26 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius.

Independent weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya has flagged a sharp rise in daytime temperatures across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, with maximums touching 42 to 46 degrees Celsius. The peak is likely around June 10 and 11, before some relief arrives by Friday. The main culprit is a steady stream of hot, dry winds blowing in from the northwest. Scientists call this advection, which simply means heat being carried from one place to another by the wind.
