Railways orders site inspection for Badli ROB after Speaker flags traffic crisis

The Union Railway Ministry has directed officials to conduct a site inspection at Badli Railway Station following concerns raised by Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta over severe traffic congestion in the area, where commuters face delays of up to two to three hours daily.
The direction was issued by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in response to a representation by the Speaker, who highlighted the urgent need for a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) to address the worsening traffic situation in North-West Delhi.
In an official communication to Gupta, the Railway Minister informed that the concerned authorities have been asked to assess the feasibility of the proposed ROB. The project aims to improve connectivity between Badli Railway Station and Rohini Sector 18 Metro Station, a key junction that handles heavy daily traffic.
The issue was brought to the Minister’s attention by the Speaker after he received a representation from Badli MLA Aahir Deepak Chaudhary. The MLA had sought immediate intervention to ease congestion, particularly for commuters travelling from Rohini to nearby industrial and residential areas such as Samaypur, Siraspur, and Libaspur.
Highlighting the scale of the problem, Gupta said the existing underpass in the area is no longer sufficient to handle current traffic volumes.
He noted that the underpass was built when the population was significantly lower and has since become inadequate due to rapid urban expansion.
According to the Speaker, residents face long traffic jams, especially during peak hours, with delays stretching up to two to three hours. He stressed that the situation is causing daily hardship for thousands of commuters who depend on this route.
The proposed Railway Over Bridge is expected to provide an alternative route and significantly reduce congestion. Gupta said the project would not only benefit residents of Rohini and Badli but also improve overall traffic movement in the surrounding areas.
He also pointed out that the ROB would strengthen connectivity with Urban Extension Road-II and nearby national highways, making it an important infrastructure upgrade for the region.
The representation highlighted that the congestion affects essential services as well. School buses, public transport vehicles, ambulances, and fire services often get stuck in long traffic queues, raising concerns about public safety and emergency response times.
