Rahul Gandhi moves MP High Court, expresses regret in defamation case filed by Kartikeya Singh

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has moved the Madhya Pradesh High Court expressing regret in a defamation case filed by Kartikeya Singh Chouhan, son of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The case stems from a complaint filed in a Bhopal court, where Kartikeya Singh alleged that remarks made by Rahul Gandhi during an election rally in Jhabua in 2018 linked his name to references connected with the Panama Papers controversy, thereby harming his reputation.

In his application before the High Court, Gandhi’s legal team stated that the remarks were not intended to refer specifically to Kartikeya Singh and sought relief from the summons issued by the lower court. The Congress leader has also challenged the continuation of the defamation proceedings.

Following the summons from the Bhopal court, Rahul Gandhi approached the High Court seeking quashing of both the summons and the criminal defamation case. The matter is currently under judicial consideration.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court is scheduled to hear Gandhi’s petition, while the lower court records have already been submitted as part of the ongoing proceedings.

The case continues to be examined, and further legal developments are awaited.
