R-Day celebrations peaceful in J&K amid tight security

The 77th Republic Day celebrations passed off peacefully across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday amid tight security arrangements.
However, before the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha unfurled the National Flag at the UT-level function at MA Stadium, a fresh encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kishtwar district, and a Pakistani intruder was shot dead by the alert BSF jawans while he was attempting to sneak into the Indian territory through the Check Majra border outpost area in Ramgarh sector late Sunday night.
Braving harsh weather conditions prevailing across the region, impressive Republic Day functions were held across the Kashmir division with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour to mark the day.
Indian army formations, stationed at different locations, also unfurled the tricolour to mark the Republic Day celebrations.
Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor laid a wreath at the Police Martyrs Memorial & Balidan Stambh and paid tributes to the valiant martyrs of the Police, Army, and CAPFs who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland.
In his Republic Day address to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, LG Manoj Sinha said that after the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year, Operation Sindoor emerged as a defining moment in India’s national security doctrine.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha said India has firmly drawn a new red line. The success of Operation Sindoor has instilled renewed confidence among citizens that our brave soldiers remain vigilant and fully committed to their protection.
At the same time, it has sent a clear signal to the international community that India’s actions are rational, restrained, and rooted in its legitimate right to self-defence. Whether terrorist networks operate across the border or within it, they will be completely neutralised. LG Sinha also made it clear that Operation Sindoor continues, with every hostile move being closely monitored. As part of non-kinetic measures, India has terminated the Indus Water Treaty, delivering a strong message that bloodshed and cooperation cannot coexist. India’s water resources will now be utilised for India’s development. LG Manoj Sinha highlighted the role of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in uncovering a nationwide terror network last November and preventing several attacks in time. “They are India’s true heroes, and I am proud of them”, he added.
Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor inspected the contingents of the Republic Day Parade and took the ceremonial salute.
The celebration showcased the developmental and cultural spirit of Jammu and Kashmir through vibrant tableaux. Key themes included Operation Sindoor, Mission Yuva, Road Safety, Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir, Shram ko Samman, Saral Kar, Sashakt Bharat and Food Safety.
The crowd was enthralled by the impressive Motorcycle Acrobatic display by the JKP’s Dare-Devils and a diverse cultural pageantry representing the UT’s rich heritage.
