Punjabi Singer arrested with 5 kg Heroin, ₹1.5 lakh drug money in Ludhiana drug bust

In a major drug bust, Police in Punjab arrested Punjabi singer Harbir Singh Sohal along with other accused persons in connection with an alleged international drug trafficking network. Police recovered over 5 kg of heroin and ₹1.5 lakh suspected drug money during the operation.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police, Darpan Ahluwalia, the investigation began on March 7 when Doraha police intercepted a Toyota Etios during routine checking and recovered 301 grams of heroin from one of the occupants.
Subsequent interrogation led to further recoveries, including additional heroin, synthetic drugs, live cartridges, and suspected drug proceeds. Investigators said the accused were part of a wider supply chain operating across Punjab.
Police later arrested alleged drug supplier Sanjeev Kumar alias Sunny after he was declared a proclaimed offender. During further investigation, the name of singer Harbir Singh Sohal surfaced, leading to his arrest on May 23.
Officials said Sohal was allegedly transporting heroin in his Mahindra Thar SUV when he was apprehended. A total seizure of around 5.669 kg heroin, 10 grams of ice drug, ammunition, and suspected drug money was made during the operation.
Investigators also claimed that the drug syndicate was being operated by an Australia-based handler identified as Gurjant Singh alias Janta, who allegedly managed funding and coordination, while local associates handled distribution in Punjab.
Police further said links to jailed associates and past criminal networks are also under investigation. Authorities have named several individuals in the FIR and are probing international financial trails connected to the racket.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely as the network is being further dismantled.
