Pune Landslide: 1 Dead, 2 feared trapped after house buried in Maval Taluka

1 person died and 2 others are feared trapped after a rain-triggered landslide buried a house in Maharashtra's Pune district on Monday, as incessant monsoon showers continued to wreak havoc across the region. The incident occurred in Patan village of Maval taluka, where heavy rainfall caused a section of a hill to collapse onto the residential structure.
Officials said rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, the fire brigade and district administration rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the landslide. Search and rescue operations were underway to locate the two people believed to be trapped beneath the debris, while excavators and other equipment were deployed to clear mud and rubble.
The landslide comes amid exceptionally heavy rainfall across Pune district and the Western Ghats. Lonavala and surrounding areas have witnessed record rainfall over the past 24 hours, leading to flooding, waterlogging and multiple landslides. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable hilly regions to remain alert and avoid unnecessary movement until weather conditions improve.
The adverse weather has also severely disrupted transportation across Maharashtra. Landslides in the Karjat-Lonavala ghat section affected rail connectivity between Mumbai and Pune, forcing the cancellation of 16 trains and diversion of several others. Road traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune highway was also temporarily suspended due to safety concerns before restoration efforts began.
District authorities said rescue operations would continue until all those trapped are accounted for. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall over parts of Maharashtra, prompting officials to maintain a high level of preparedness and advise people living in landslide-prone areas to exercise caution.
