Priority must be given to issues flagged by citizens: LG

Delhi Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday emphasised that sustained priority must be given to effective garbage management, timely road repairs, dust mitigation, and swift resolution of issues flagged by citizens and the media.
Giving this direction while reviewing the status and progress of key initiatives and ongoing works undertaken by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), he also advised the civic body NDMC to remain open and responsive to feedback in a constructive manner. Sandhu also urged it to bridge the gap between on-ground realities and service delivery expectations—an essential prerequisite for achieving citizen-centric governance.
The Lt Governor’s meeting with the NDMC chairman focused on addressing operational challenges, augmenting infrastructure, and ensuring the effective delivery of essential civic services across the New Delhi area.
As the urban local body entrusted with managing the core of the National Capital, the NDMC carries the responsibility of delivering services that are not only efficient and citizen-centric but also replicable as models of global standards and best practices.
In this context, the following key areas were highlighted for focused action:
Exploring the adoption of advanced technologies and global best practices for efficient waste management.
Developing pedestrian-friendly solutions in high-footfall areas such as Khan Market and Connaught Place.
Examining measures to rationalise power tariffs for NDMC residents to reduce their financial burden.
