President Droupadi Murmu holds historic talks with Moldova's Maia Sandu during landmark visit

President Droupadi Murmu held delegation-level talks with her Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu in Chisinau on Monday as part of her three-nation visit to Eastern Europe. The visit marks the first-ever visit by an Indian President to Moldova, highlighting New Delhi's efforts to deepen ties with the region.

After receiving a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Presidential Palace, President Murmu and President Sandu first met privately before leading delegation-level discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation. The talks covered areas of mutual interest, with both leaders expected to expand collaboration in sectors such as trade, investment and other key fields. Following the discussions, the two presidents were scheduled to issue a joint press statement.

During her visit, President Murmu is also set to pay tribute at the Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Monument, one of Moldova's most important national landmarks. She will also interact with the India-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group, address a business forum and meet members of the Indian community. After concluding her Moldova visit, President Murmu will travel to North Macedonia and Romania, continuing her diplomatic outreach to strengthen India's engagement with Eastern Europe.
