Six Kanwariyas injured as pickup vehicle overturns in Pratapgarh

Six Kanwariyas were seriously injured after their pickup vehicle overturned in the Lalganj area here on Monday, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Brijnandan Rai said the accident occurred near the Natraj petrol pump in Dabhiar under Lalganj Kotwali police station.

According to Rai, the Kanwariyas had travelled from Sahumai Ka Purwa in the Manikpur area carrying Ganga water to offer it at the Ghuisarnath Dham temple.

"After offering prayers and performing the ritual, they were returning in the pickup vehicle when it suddenly went out of control and overturned near the petrol pump," he said.

Police identified the injured as Shani Bharti (20), Himanshu (22), Shivam (19), Nirmala Sahu (18), Pawan (26) and Anil (26).

"After being informed, police reached the scene and shifted all the injured to a trauma centre," the ASP (West) said.

Rai said doctors referred Shani, Himanshu and Shivam to a medical college after finding their condition serious. The other injured Kanwariyas received first aid and were sent home, he said.
