Prayagraj woman dies saving 3 children from massive building fire

A woman in Prayagraj lost her life after rescuing three children from a massive fire that broke out in a residential building following a suspected short circuit.
The incident took place on the night of May 12 and has left the local community in shock. According to preliminary information, the ground floor of the building housed a crockery shop and warehouse, while the family lived on the upper floors.
Police said a short circuit triggered the fire around 9 pm, causing flames and thick smoke to rapidly spread across the building. As the smoke blocked the staircase and exit route, family members rushed to the rooftop in a desperate attempt to survive.
Amid the chaos, Archana displayed extraordinary courage to save her children. She first wrapped her one-year-old child in a bedsheet and carefully lowered the infant across a 12-foot gap to a neighbouring terrace, where residents safely pulled the child to safety.
She then used a ladder to help her 13-year-old and 10-year-old daughters escape to the adjacent rooftop. Archana also managed to rescue her nephew during the operation.
However, while ensuring everyone else escaped safely, she became trapped in the smoke and flames. She suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she later died during treatment.
Her 13-year-old daughter also sustained burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, Archana’s sister-in-law reportedly fractured her leg after jumping from the rooftop during the rescue attempt.
Multiple fire brigade teams were deployed to control the blaze, which was finally extinguished after hours of firefighting efforts.
