Police solve Rs 20 lakh jewellery theft case

Delhi Police’s Metro Unit has solved a high-value jewellery theft case within days, recovering a bag containing gold jewellery worth about Rs 20 lakh. The jewellery went missing on January 22 at the Chandni Chowk Metro Station. The case was cracked through detailed CCTV analysis and coordinated efforts of the Kashmere Gate Metro Police and Special Staff, resulting in 100 per cent recovery of the stolen property.
The theft was reported on last Thursday, after which a case under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Kashmere Gate Metro. The complainant reported the loss of a jewellery bag containing gold ornaments valued at nearly Rs 20 lakh while travelling through the metro network. A special team was immediately constituted to investigate the case.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Kushal Pal Singh said the case highlights the effectiveness of surveillance and quick response within the metro system. “The prompt action and meticulous CCTV analysis by the Kashmere Gate Metro Police and Special Staff ensured the jewellery bag was traced and recovered intact. This reflects Delhi Police’s commitment to safeguarding commuters and their property,” the DCP said.
During the investigation, police teams examined CCTV footage from Chandni Chowk Metro Station, where the theft was suspected to have occurred. The footage revealed a woman wearing a pink jacket and black pants picking up the jewellery bag and boarding a metro train heading towards Millennium City Centre. Investigators then tracked her movement through multiple stations using internal CCTV cameras.
