Police save stunt biker from angry crowd

A late-night motorcycle stunt celebrating India’s cricket victory nearly triggered a law-and-order situation in Old Rajender Nagar.
The incident occurred around 11.30 pm on February 15 on Bada Bazar Road under the Rajender Nagar police station. Police said the rider performed dangerous stunts and rode in a rash and negligent way on a public road. This posed a serious threat to pedestrians and other commuters. The rider caused havoc, leading an angry crowd to gather and attempt to assault him.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Anant Mittal said the timely intervention of patrolling staff prevented the situation from spiralling out of control. “Our officers acted swiftly. They not only apprehended the rider but also shielded him from an aggressive crowd. Their prompt action averted a major law and order problem,” he said.
According to the police, when they received information about a biker creating chaos in the area. The team immediately rushed to the spot and apprehended the rider along with his motorcycle bearing registration number DL 6SBM 0533. The accused was identified as Mohit Sharma, a resident of Old Rajender Nagar.
During interrogation, Sharma said he was celebrating India’s cricket victory. In his excitement, he began doing stunts on the motorcycle in the middle of the road. Police said he admitted to riding recklessly without considering others’ safety. Officials also found he was not wearing a protective helmet as required by Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
As police began questioning him at the spot, a large crowd gathered. Witnesses said several bystanders were angered by the stunt riding, which had endangered lives. The crowd soon turned aggressive. Some individuals allegedly attempted to physically assault the rider.
Sensing the risk of mob violence, police officials quickly formed a protective cover around the accused. They tactfully dispersed the crowd and escorted him safely from the area. Police said their calm handling of the situation prevented possible grievous harm and further escalation.
