Police register FIR after selfie brigade disrupts R-Day rehearsal

Delhi Police have registered an FIR and initiated legal action after members of the public disrupted a Republic Day parade rehearsal by clicking photographs, recording videos and taking selfies at the venue on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident came to light after a video surfaced showing people entering restricted areas and interfering with the rehearsal proceedings. The footage showed individuals moving close to marching contingents and equipment during the practice session, prompting concerns over safety and discipline at the high-security event.
A senior police officer said such behaviour poses a serious risk not only to the parade participants but also to the spectators present at the site. “Legal action has been taken, and an FIR has been registered in this regard,” the officer said, adding that interference during rehearsals is being treated seriously due to the potential for accidents and security lapses.
The officer cautioned that Republic Day parade rehearsals involve complex movements, synchronised drills and the use of heavy equipment. Even minor disturbances, he said, can disrupt formations and lead to injuries or other untoward incidents.
“These rehearsals are carefully planned and executed. Any unnecessary movement or crowding near the rehearsal area can be dangerous,” he said.
Police officials urged spectators to strictly follow safety norms while attending rehearsals or watching them from designated enclosures or roadside locations. They appealed to people to maintain distance, follow instructions issued by security personnel and avoid activities such as taking selfies or recording videos that could distract participants or obstruct the flow of the rehearsal. The police also emphasised that Republic Day events are conducted under tight security arrangements, and any violation of protocols is taken seriously.
Officials said adequate arrangements are made to allow the public to witness rehearsals from safe locations, and people should cooperate with authorities to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
