Police recreate crime scene in IRS officer’s daughter murder case

Delhi Police on Saturday recreated the crime scene at the Amar Colony residence of a senior IRS officer, where the alleged rape and murder of his 22-year-old daughter took place on April 22. Recreation of the crime scene is important for piecing together the sequence of events that led to the grisly murder.
The Southeast District police has recovered the iPhone stolen from the victim from a park, while police have also conducted a potency test as part of the rape investigation. Police are searching for the phone of the accused, which he had sold to someone.
Crime and forensic teams of Delhi Police carried out an in-depth study of the sequence of events inside the house, sources said.
Rahul Meena, the accused, who had been a domestic help at the IRS officer’s residence, was brought to the scene of the crime for recording the sequence from his entry inside the house and the time of his escape.
The 22-year-old girl, an engineering graduate and UPSC aspirant, was raped and murdered at her residence in southeast Delhi’s Kailash Hills locality on Wednesday morning.
Investigation by the police has found that the accused, Rahul Meena, who had been a domestic help at the residence, used his familiarity with the house layout and access points to enter the flat. He knew the daily routine of the parents of the victim and had gained entry inside.
Meena allegedly went to the rooftop study room where the victim was studying. He attacked her with a heavy object, raped her and then dragged her downstairs to use her fingers to open a biometric locker and steal cash. The fingerprint could not work, as the fingers of the victim were covered with blood.
The post-mortem examination has found deep ligature marks on the throat of the victim as the cause of death. There were multiple injuries on her body, including a nasal bone fracture, indicating that he put up resistance.
The accused had fled the scene and was seen rushing through the area’s CCTV cameras. He was identified by the parents of the victim and was later arrested from a hotel room in Dwarka in southwest Delhi. Police have recovered more than `1 lakh in cash and stolen jewellery from his possession.
As part of the probe, police took the accused to Palam railway station, where he had first gone after the crime, and will also take him to the Dwarka hotel where he stayed briefly before being arrested, sources said.
Meena was known for aggressive behaviour in his native village in Rajasthan. Delhi Police are planning a detailed psychological assessment of the accused to evaluate his mental state and behavioural patterns.
Psychoanalysis of the accused is critical to assess his psychopathic tendencies and whether there was a history of violent conduct.
Meena’s psychological profiling will help understand his mental state and reconstruct events and also help the investigating officer in establishing whether the rape, murder and robbery were premeditated, an official said. The accused has no remorse, as he has been behaving normally. His psychoanalysis becomes more important to understand the motive of the crime, the official added.
The psychological analysis may involve clinical evaluation by experts to assess aggression levels, emotional responses and personality traits, including indicators linked to disorders such as antisocial personality disorder, sources said.
It has been found that Meena was addicted to online betting and card games such as “Teen Patti” and had lost over Rs 7 lakh in the last few months, which drove him to frequently borrow money to sustain the habit.
