Police confer honorary ranks on 111 personnel at retirement

Delhi Police has conferred honorary ranks to 111 personnel on the day of their retirement at a ceremonial event held at the Police Headquarters on Friday.
The pipping ceremony took place at Adarsh Auditorium and marked the second such event under the honorary rank promotion Scheme for the Delhi Police.
The ceremony was presided over by Commissioner of police Satish Golchha, who personally pipped the retiring personnel with the insignia of their next higher honorary rank.
The beneficiaries ranged from the rank of constable to sub-inspector. Senior officers of the force were also present during the event.
The honorary promotions were granted under a scheme approved by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, allowing retiring personnel from the rank of constable up to sub-inspector to receive an honorary elevation on their last day of service.
The first ceremony under the scheme was held on December 31, 2025.
Addressing the gathering, the commissioner of police thanked the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Lieutenant Governor for approving the scheme, describing it as a meaningful recognition of long and dedicated service.
He praised the retiring personnel for discharging their duties with commitment and professionalism till the final day of their service.
“The honorary ranks are a mark of respect for years of dedication and sacrifice. The department values the contribution made by each officer to public safety and law enforcement,” the commissioner said, while extending his best wishes for a healthy and fulfilling post-retirement life to the retirees.
The event began with a welcome address by Special Commissioner of Police (Human Resource Development) Robin Hibu, who outlined the objective of the honorary rank promotion scheme and highlighted its importance in boosting morale among personnel nearing retirement.
He said the initiative reflects the organisation’s effort to honour service and dedication tangibly. The commissioner also acknowledged the role played by senior officers in implementing the scheme and organising the ceremony.
He appreciated the efforts of Special CP Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Suman Goyal, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Personnel) Sanjay Bhatia, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (HQ-IV) Rakesh Paweria, along with the officers and staff at Police Headquarters.
The ceremony was attended by senior Delhi Police officers, the retiring personnel and their family members. Many retirees were seen receiving the honorary insignia in the presence of their loved ones, making the occasion both formal and emotional.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Joint Commissioner of Police Suman Goyal, who expressed gratitude to the leadership for institutionalising the scheme and to the families of the retirees for their support during years of demanding service.
Officials said the honorary rank promotion scheme is aimed at recognising the contribution of personnel who may not have received regular promotions due to structural limitations but have served the force with dedication and integrity.
The Delhi Police leadership reiterated that similar initiatives would continue in the future to strengthen morale and reinforce a culture of respect and recognition within the force.
The ceremony was described by officials as a symbolic farewell that honoured decades of service and reinforced the bond between the organisation and its personnel even beyond retirement.
